Thus, I don't know how these two lenses compare; sharpness & contrast. Based on comparing my 180 f2.8 apo with my 70-180 apo, knowing the BAS performance of the 70-180, 180 f3.4, & the older 180 elmarit; I'd guess that the new Elmarit outperforms its predecessor & tracks rather closely to the 180 f 3.4 apo. However, only Erwin Puts, could tell us if my overly bold leaps make sense ;-) ; it would be nice to hear from Erwin on this subject..........comparing the 180s! Tom D.
