The term APO has been used rather loosely by some manufacturers.  It reminds
me of the stereo power ratings of the 70's and the horsepower wars of the
60's.  At least in Leica's case, it means something.  It is my understanding
that APO to Leica means that the lens is corrected thru the entire focussing
range, not just at infinity.  This is really important on a lens like the
100/2.8 APO Macro R.  This lens is truly phenominal, and is reason enough to
own an R camera.
Don't be fooled by imitations!
