One-of-a-Kind Leica Camera Fetches More Than $15,000 at Christie's

NORTHVALE, N.J., June 11 /PRNewswire/ -- A platinum-plated, calfskin
leather Leica M6 camera bearing the engraved signature of world-famous
Leica photographer Henri Cartier-Bresson was auctioned today at
Christie's of South Kensington(U.K.) for 23,500 pounds (equivalent
$15,525). All proceeds from the sale of the special edition camera,
developed by Leica specifically for the auction, will benefit The Little
Brothers of the Poor, a French charity seeking to help the world's
impoverished. The unique Leica was purchased by a British private
collector who wishes to remain anonymous.

Cartier-Bresson, considered one of the world's most influential
photojournalists, with works in museums around the world, helped found
the renowned Magnum Photo agency in 1947. This is the first time he has
lent his signature to a camera.

The modern version of the original Leica introduced in 1925, the M6 is
the standard for 35mm rangefinder cameras. Leica is one of the pioneers
of 35mm photography.
