There's a webpage dedicated to the Leica M3, and one of the sections has
serial numbers (see the whole table, by point your browser towards 
http://www.geocities.co.jp/Technopolis/2276/no_table.html).  According to
this table, no. 985752 was manufactured in 1959.  I believe that this
table is similar (or identical) to the one at the *back* of the Leica
Pocket Book by Hove Books.

Good luck with your M3.  It sure is one lovely camera.
