Jim,
I recently acquired the same IIIf/5cm Summitar setup, and have noticed a few
quizzical looks! I think that the 'M' cameras, the black in particular,
register with people's subconcious as a 'point 'n shoot', and they never
really 'notice' the camera; a case of them 'looking' at the camera, and not
really 'seeing' it.
Then again, if that IIIf looks like it just came out of the box, with all
that shiny chrome, an' neat little knobs and stuff- it could be looks of
envy! Did you notice any green eyes?. I almost forgot- if your Summitar has
that funky foldup barndoor lenshade, that could attract some attention! The
first time I pointed mine at my son, he said, " Gee, Dad, that sure looks
dorky!"

p.s. did you get a Black Dial or Red Dial. I have both, and I really do
think the RD is smoother and quieter than the BD- your opinion?!
Best of light !

Dan,

Ihave the barn door lens shade but wasn't using it at the time. I was using
the Universal Finder which I mentioned before probably makes it look like a
Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon raygun You're right, the shade looks very wierd
and I think I'll try it with the Finder! That should really generate some
reactions!

I got the Black Dial and coated Summitar circa 1951 according to the serial
numbers. I love it! It's like a fine watch, the way it is made. I have never
really used a Red Dial so I can't make a comparison. I picked up a 35mm/3.5
early Summaron for it last Saturday but have not shot any film with it yet.
