I've used one for years, and it's one of the best buys for the money.
I called the new manufacturer of the Star D to see if they had a center
column
replacement, so that I could use a Stroboframe delux ballhead.
They said it wouldn't be available until approx. November.
A friend of mine uses one with a massive ballhead for his 8 x 10 Deardorff.
One tip - I carry mine attached to a modified dog leash, no kidding, and
upside-down, the proper way to carry a tripod.
