Charles,

Since the thread of the soft release is conical rather than cylindrical,
removing the button would not be a problem. Just be sure to use the
semi-permanent Lock Tight and to apply it sparingly onto the threads of the
button, not the shutter release thus avoiding the possibility of plugging
the shutter release opening.
