Subject: [Leica] TCN400

I have not used the Ilford film for a while but use quite a bit of
TCN400 in my M3 and IIIF with older lenses. I really like the
tonality and the flowing feeling you get when you shoot portraits in
available light.

One point about processing is important. Unless the lab has the line
set for TCN400 the color tint of the print can vary considerably, even
within the same roll. One shop that I use regularly is able to set
their line for TCN400 and they produce consistent and reasonable
quality B&W prints from their machine. I think that in most
instances, one has to take a TCN400 machine processed print as a proof
and not judge the film from the results. One other problem is that I
find it much harder to "read" the negatives than with traditional B&W
film.

That being said, I do like it and use it quite a bit. Under normal
cirumstances it makes it really easy to go "meterless" which can be
nice with the older Leicas.
