Whether this characteristic is important or not others are better qualified to answer than I. All I can say is that I recently upgraded to the 35mm Summicron ASPH (from a non-ASPH older Summicron) after borrowing one, shooting some test slides with it and my own lens, and comparing on the light table. The difference was certainly there at the widest apertures f2 and f2.8. After that, the two lenses seemed equal. But now I can shoot at f2 with total confidence.
