Nigel,

                     >>& buy a mint, late version 50/2<<

A more inexpensive way to find out if I need/want this focal
length; however, I have worked with the new R-50 f1.4 for a
day & really like the results. A continuing puzzle ;-)!

            >>decides to update the 24 with an ASPH<<

Now that's a clear cut issue. I really like the 24mm focal
length & would trade immediately!

>>even though you speak of the 70-180 & 35-70 ASPH,<<
                            >>two beastly lenses<<

My primary usage of the 70-180 is with a tripod; so the
weight is not an issue. However, at 1050 grams, the R-
35-70 ASPh might be a "tad" unwieldy for handheld use.

More reason to keep my R-90 f2.8; its balance is great
on my R7s & R8s with motor-drives. A lens that Leica
should have continued to produce!
