Hi!

I just managed to got to very special and intresesting site called:

www.photodo.com.

Check it out!

It has excellent material about cameras (also classic Leicas and Zeisses) and interesting stories about the history of RF and SLR photography, lenses, etc. The guys behind this site were previously active in a
Swedish magazine Fotagrafi and now their excellent writings are available in English, too.

This site displays 300MTF measurements on different lenses made in the Hasselblad laboratory. Some interesting remarks from these measurements are:
. best MTF measurements (so far) have been made with Canon EF 200/1.8L USM!!!!
. Contax G Planar 35/2.0 has almost the same results with old Leica Summicron 35/2.0 (construction in these lenses is the same, too!!! A copy?)
. Leica Noctilux-M 50/1.0 seems to be a pretty good all around lens improving very fast when the diaphgram in closed.
  . Leica Summilux-M 35/1.4ASPH has a weighted MTF rating of only 0.54 at F1.4!!!!!
. zooms preform generally badly, especially from Sigma, Tokina, Tamron, Vivitar etc. but even the Nikkor 24-120/3.5-5.6D is very poor!!!

How to jugde lens performance and MTF ratings is also discussed thoroughly in these pages. This is very important because misunderstandings are easy to make
and therefore many magazines (for example the German ColorFoto)have decided not to show them any more.

When searching the lens archieve you should use the advanced search mode and check the "MTF measured lenses only" box in order to find the lenses with the actual MFT measurements. All lenses in the lists have not (yet?) been tested andonly technical data is available.

Bye

Esa

PS. The search function enables you view the data nicely in a table form, too.
