I got really lucky and was given a 50mm f2.8 elmar. Came with a chrome leica lens cap. However, the front element does have light scratches on it. Is it possible and is it worth it to have this repaired. The glass itself is not foggy, nor does the rest of the lens have any fungus. It would appear to me if a recoating pro could rework it, it would be a real nice lens. Does Leica still redo old lenses like this? Has anybody done this? And how dear is it? I have made some images with it and it is not as contrasty as my new lens of course. I expected that. What I would like to use it for are those sunny f16 days to keep the camera close to me an unobtrusive until, a situation would present itself for recording. I have a 50mm f2 summicron already the last version with the detachable hood, of which I adore. Maybe this new lens could go on my second vintage M body in the future!!! gck
