Subject: Re: [Leica] M6 RF vertical adjustment... again, the answer

Did a little research today regarding the vertical adjustment question.
Called Leica and got the same story as Jim. I'm sure the people in Northvale
wonder why the sudden interest in the vertical adjustment screw.
I also looked at several M cameras in my possession, to see which ones had the
vertical adjustment screw and which ones didn't. I checked my M4-2 and it had
the adjusting screw same as the M 3, 2, 4, 5. Next I checked two M4-P's with
the old brass non-M6 style top plate. They had the newer style, non-screw
adjustable configuration. I then checked two M6 style top plate M4-P's. Same
story. I then looked at a cutaway M6, same story again. I studied the new
arrangement briefly and do not see how the adjustment can now be performed,
even with a new special tool. I have not pulled the top cover off a more
recent M6 to see if the design has changed, but my guess is that it has not.
This seems to confirm what Walt reported; that Leica changed the design with
the M4-P. Leica maintains that the vert. adjustment is still adjustable, but
that you must now have a special "recessed" tool to use. Sherry, we need your
opinion on this as an independent repair person!
As they say, they don't make 'em like they used to.
