Subject: [Leica] Re: CLE Repairs. (Please read P.S.)

I had my CLE repaired last october by Nippon Photoclinic in NY City. It
had stopped working - not even the test led was coming on. They were very
helpful over the phone, even suggesting several (obvious) DIY remedies. As
none of these revived it, they suggested I bring it in, whilst cautioning
me that the camera might not be repairable at all owing to a lack of spares.

A week later they called back with an estimate of $ 130 for repair and
full CLA. I told them to go ahead and 3 days later the camera was ready
to be picked up. At all times they were very helpful, gladly answering all
my questions.

They did a superb job; the camera now functions as well as it ever did:
the meter & rfdr are spot on.

The CLE is my favourite "snapshot" camera. I never use an M if the CLE
will do, i.e. no high speed lenses. Wish Minolta would revive it or sell
the moulds, jigs, patterns, etc., assuming they still exist, to someone
willing to resume production. Solms are you listening and do you
have a few Yen to spare.....? Do you really care...?
