Dear Creek,
The word 'mean-spirited' came into English around 1685-1695. The word
'yuppie' entered English about 200 years later. My source of this is the
Random House Dictionary.
What it is you "get" is a mystery to me.
And who is it that is "whining?" I am well aware of the sources of rudeness
and brashness.
Sincerely,
Joe Stephenson
