Well,

I've often thought about joining, but I've always thought that the fees
(dues) are rather steep for what you get. The magazine seems to me to be
adequate rather than exhillerating and though I know many people who are
deeply involved in the heirarchy they still haven't convinced me that I'd
get much more out of the society other than a 'monica' (title) to write
after my name.

One of my best photo pals here is involved with the Contemporary Group
(within the RPS) 
They've set up a web site to explain their 'box' which is a postal portfolio
system  sharing their work with others who are geographically diverse.
