I agree...I've always heard that the current 90/2.8 Elmarit-M is a first
rate lens, so any lens that outperforms, even slightly, must be very good
indeed.  Of course, at f2, the difference becomes immeasurable.  

On a more serious note, what worries me about the new lens is its size and
weight.  I'm not sure I'd sacrifice my tele-elmarit for that.
