Kent,

The choice of colour printer is very simple: just pick the latest model
from the Epson Stylus Photo series and you will not be disappointed. I
have the Epson Stylus Photo 700; in the same generation is the Epson
Stylus Photo EX, the difference being print size (the 700 prints up to
A4/letter, the EX up to A3). I believe that both models have been
replaced recently by models which offer even finer drop size and hence
even better reproduction. One word of advice: buy the model that prints
on A3, so that you have the possibility of making the big print. The
quality is good enough for that, and the added flexibility is worth
paying for. Do not cut corners too much on the printer, your main
expense is going to be ink cartridges and paper anyway.

All the printers can print on plain paper, but then it will obviously
not be photo quality. The best paper is Epson Photo Paper. I have tried
several other brands and been disappointed every time.

Also, do not think of this printer as a general-use colour printer. It
will print text and graphics just fine, but it is really not optimised
for it, meaning it will be slow and the cost per page will be
dramatically higher than using a laser printer. I use my Epson strictly
for photos; for general use I have a Kyocera laser.
