I wouldn't use it on my 1n either.  The bane of the EOS cameras is the fact
you need the owners manual to figure out what the custom fuctions are and
which one to set for MLU.  I use MLU on my R8 all the time when shooting
wildlife with  400mm and longer lenses.  As a matter of fact, I just shot
some pictures of lupines at the side of the road today using Velvia and the
19mm using MLU and a tripod.  It was overcast and I was shooting F11 and
1/6 second with a tripod and MLU.  The R8 makes MLU practical because it
has a switch to activate it, rather than a long sequence of button pushes
and dial turns like the EOS and other systems.
