Subject: [Leica] Ted gives good advice

A week or so ago I posted a question about the shutter on Leicaflex
camera, specifically whether there was a pattern of problems at high
speeds. I received many replies from Leicaflex owners, mostly indicating
that there were no special problems. As usual, Ted's advice was
something to the effect, "just go and take some pictures and see if they
are OK!" So I did, shooting half a roll of E200 at 1/2000 and the other
half at 1/1000. I am happy to see that the slides are all evenly
illuminated, thus no sign of shutter problems. They are uniformly
slightly overexposed, perhaps half a stop, indicating that the real
shutter speeds when set at 1/2000 and 1/1000 are something like 1/1500
and 1/700 respectively. But since it is consistent, it is not a real
problem, as I can simply compensate for it. In any event, I understand
that this is a very common problem with all mechanical shutters.

In the end, Ted's advice was right on the money. I even got some good
shots out of the exercise.
