Aha!  I'll bet the Elmarit that's getting badmouthed isn't really the
(first) Elmarit at all but one of the Tele-Elmarits.

Having used the original Elmarit for ages, I've never had problems with
flare.

Of course, I don't run around shooting into the sun but I have had problems
with Caucasian faces in direct sunlight with faster lenses like the
Summicron-R and various Nikkors (but not the Elmarit).
