Though the new 500 MHz G4 Mac is 2 to 4 times faster with Photoshop than
500 MHz Pentium III systems.

There are a lot of reasons for a system to be faster than another..( # of
processors, bus speed, better MMU, SCSI HDD, Graphics co-processor, type of
Memory for video are some ) .. and in the graphics applications arena, it is
even harder to pinpoint..... With Dual Pentium III processors, this may be
negated..... somewhat. The Wintel platform is usually generic. There are
very few specialized assemblages of equipment for specific application like
image processing. Apple has focused on image processing. Their systems
should be "quicker".

BTW, the most special part of the SGI Platform is supposed to be the
graphics display section..... it is also the most expensive. Besides there
is the issue of support to the average layman at home for a system that is
primarily sold to the corporate account.... Both OS, Application Program and
Hardware. For the newspapers or corporate account OK, but for me at home?
I don;t think I want to get into that mess.....
