Progress is a signed quantity.  You can go forwards--or backwards.

If Leica wants to progress, let it be in the continuing direction of better
lenses.  They've done well on that path so far, and they still are an industry
leader in that domain.

If Leica must diversify, why not simply start making lenses for Nikons and
Canons?  A Nikon F5 with a Leica AF-S zoom would be quite a pretty combination!
