Ted,

Isn't it more a case of you having done it so long you don't have to think
about it. I think that a basic understanding of the zone system (no
capitals) helps us until exposure becomes second nature.  If you are taking
a picture on a sunny winter day in the snow (sunny day on the beach for non
Canadians), I'll bet you open up a couple of stops after lighting the two
arrows with even thinking about it. No?
