Moreover, Leica has arranged for a unique coating technique known as byakudan nuri (sandalwood coating). With this technique, sulphurated silver foils are applied to the camera body irregularly and then color-coated. The color coat is then finished with a hard urethane coat. The area surrounding the Leica logo is also finished with an elaborate traditional process called ikakeji. First, a coat of japanese lacquer is applied; before this coat dries, the coarsest pure gold dust is scattered over the lacquer." Needless to say, if you like this camera it is not an easy one to come by!
