Regarding lens testing, it boils down to this:  we test to predict what kind
of pictures a given tool will make.  Some of us appreciate that others
report on what particular lenses that we lust for will do.

Of course we all like to validate the choices we have already made.  There
is the satisfaction of looking at our prints under the loupe and exclaiming
(hopefully quietly to ourselves) "Ah the Summicron!"

I myself do sometimes "run around with Brownies"  just for fun.  That
usually lasts until I take a picture that I wish looked sharp in an
enlargment.  At that point I put away the toys and go back to my Leica!
