What's in a name?

I had an interesting exchange with Richard Avedon's studio not long ago.
I was evidently not a big enough wig to speak to RA directly, so I
funnelled my discussions through a second assistant named Brian
Hetherington. At the end of the several-week-long exchange (which
resulted in our getting permissions to reproduce two Avedon photographs
free of charge, for which we are grateful to RA), I complimented Brian
on the fact that he and I had gotten along so well despite being blood
enemies.

He had no idea what I was talking about. The Johnstons were lowland
Scots and the Hetheringtons were a clan on the English side of the
Marches. Our clans feuded bitterly for a hundred years, long time ago.

He said, "Well, you seem like a nice enough guy."
