I have both lenses and can tell you that the 3.4 is obviously sharper and 
more contrasty than the 2.8. The 3.4 is great wide open and does not improve 
much with storpping down while the 2.8 does. The 2.8 is much better close-up. 
What is especially appealing to me is the crisp, edge definition of the 3.4. 
The 2.8 never looks like that. Not a very scientific evaluation, but it is 
based upon use.
