  Hi Tom -

In those days, I had a Contax IIA and a Leica IIIc. The relative
workmanship was painfully obvious; however the Contax was blessed
with a superb rangefinder (extended base) and Zeiss lenses. Tossup?
I used both, but the IIIc ended up in my pocket more times than I
carried the Contax. The 50mm on the IIA was a 1/2.0. The 50mm on the
IIIc was a 1/3.5. With Kodachrome 12, the Contax obviously won out
in difficult lighting situations.

The Contax had a vertical travel metal focal plane shutter that
permitted shutter speeds to (shudder!) 1/1000! I really loved that
camera - - - when I could keep it working. And, that was the
problem! I could count on the IIIc to resemble the Energizer Bunny,
But I always feared that a 1/1000 exposure on the IIA would be my
last one.

Just my three cents (inflation, you know)

George
