All I can say is that the Summicron-M 35mm f/2 ASPH is perhaps the best 
35mm lens I've ever used. I have no comparison against earlier versions, 
but against my Nikkor 35/2, Contax Planar 35/2, Minoxar 35/2.8 and 
Summicron-C 40/2, it is definitely a superior optic with better 
sharpness, more beautiful OOF signature and superb mid-tone separation.
