A matter of personal taste. That's the difference between the two finishes.
Lots of people think the black finish is better for covert shooting. My
experience is if someone knows it's a Leica, they'll know (and see it)
whether it's black or chrome. I happen to like the chrome look, whether it's
real chrome like my M4 or chrome colored zinc, like my M6.

I have not seen enough worn black or chrome bodies to tell you which will
wear better, but my newer chrome M6 is 11 years old & I have a real hard
time seeing any bright marks on it like you can on the classic bodies, like
the M4.

Subject: [Leica] Question on M6 Finish

I am about to purchase an M6, and would appreciate opinions on the
durability of the black vs. chrome finish on this camera. Aesthetically,
I am more attracted to the black finish, but am wondering if it holds up
as well as the chrome, when used with great care ( I am very particular
regarding the care and use of my equipment - it would not be handled
roughly). Thank you for your input.
