And yet, we still have products like Mont Blanc pens, Waterford crystal
and Rolex watches despite far cheaper, technically superior
alternatives! What's the trick? Maybe one of convincing the right people
that Leica is really important to them (forget that digital camera, new
car and home video gear--let's put the whole budget into film-based
photography!), and that Leica cameras are The Best Money Can Buy. This
makes life easier for the salespeople, as the buyer's only remaining
decision is "black or chrome?"

But for the immediate future, it's the R-system, not the M, which needs
a lot of help: Just how badly, you can see for yourself in their
financial reports.
