I have Kodachromes and Ektachromes taken by my uncle in 1955. They have
been in a metal slide box ever since. The Kodachromes are as new -
superb, the Ektachromes are almost blank.

The process is unique. I used to work on a Kodachrome processor when I
was in college. Dyes are ADDED to the film in processing. That's why it
has such great colors and permanence.
