Sorry to engender confustion:  Tamarkin simply gave me an appraisal; I
*bought* the camera elsewhere.  And the guy I bought it from was not
willing to come down in price.

As for the touch-up...  I don't know.  It's probably irrational, a
hangover from my days at architecture school:  a preference for truth in
construction, and authenticity.  Banged-up is authentic.  Touched-up is a
lie.  (We all have our neuroses.)
