This is indeed when the pain of being replaces the boredom of living: 
"Inferno" should be required reading for afficionados of corporate power and 
those who have made their peace with capitalism, although I'm tempted to 
conclude that it will have scant effect on such men and women.  Optimism of 
the spirit, pessimism of the intellect. Still, the book sort of puts a 
damper on the profligate, self-referential dissemination of meaningless, 
stupid, autobiographical and just plain bad photographs, doesn't it? Long 
ago, a saxophone player told a neighbor of mine, a trumpeter, that when he 
picked up his instrument he was unable to stop playing. The right on 
response: "Take the fucking horn outta your mouth!"
