I have to admit that I too was hesitant about the security of internet
shopping and releasing personal information, as well as the fact that
registering at PayPal was the first and only time I used my credit card over
the internet.
However, I cannot believe that a business which deals strictly in financial
transactions (and one that supposedly is backed by Deuche Bank) would be any
less secure than a cyber store. Registering at PayPal is the same as
shopping at Joeschlock.com, in both cases it is done by email.
