B. D., I've been using a Tenba satchel every day for 2+ years now and it
hardly shows any wear at all! So far I'd rate it's lifespan at 2x that
of a canvas Domke and the figure may go higher still. The Protek fabric
is indeed extremely rugged. As a camera bag, it has a number of features
which are more clever than useful, chief among these being a hinged
organizer section which can accomodate PDAs sunglasses, pens,
notepads--but not film. I've just emailed Tenba asking for a revised
model with higher capacity, more judicious use of padding and less frou
frou.

In the early 80s, I had problems with Tenba fabrics deteriorating
(smelled like someone had puked in the bag) but that seems to be a thing
of the past, and I'd notice real quickly if that weren't the case! I
don't like the smell of new synthetics outgassing either, but whatever
odor a new Tenba has goes away pretty fast.
