I think that it is far easier for Leica to design this lens than to actually
put it into production.

I remember the first version of the 35/1.4 Aspherical. Leica planned on
making 1600 of these lenses. This lens was very difficult to make and in the
end they made far fewer than1600 of these. Also, 90/2 AA is just now
becoming readily available after quite along time after being announced.
