Go North! Visit Ranchos de Taos, Taos, swing up toward Rodarte if you
can. The Rio Grande Gorge (west of Taos) is spectacular. In all, a four
hour drive will encompass a breathtaking range of landscape, built
environment, you name it. The Mable Phelps Dodge Ranch belongs to the
University of New Mexico, but used to be open to the public: serious DH
Lawrence, Georgia O'Keefe country. Santa Fe's been colonized by the
distinctly uncool.

The Pink Adobe was the old "old" Sante Fe restaurant of choice; I don't
know whether it's still a going concern. We used to eat there before the
opera--which is another spectacular experience.
