julian deplored olympus not further devoloping their lens range. what was
there to develop? they quit the line having the
cleverest most photographer friendly line ever. for example their l00f2
focused to 2'. who else? macros you say, well they had a 90 f2 to 1/2 life
size w/floating elements. Pancake f2 40mm, 24mmf3.5 shift lens a light year
ahead
of canons in micro-contrast,a 2l f2,18f3.5, many super teles of great speed,
yet were not selling like nikon, canon, minolta, pentax. the exposure system in
the 4t i have was considered best ever by
truly great experts leica schwalberg and peter moore . an independant test
of all spot reading cameras and all spot meters found it the most accurate
at lowest and highest light level. as many spots as you want with the last
ones showing and averaged in the finder, on demand auto highlight and shadow
compensation c.2 stops each, first ever. one
electronic flash they offered did the impossible: was usable at speeds to
2000th of a second, which takes 20mil seconds to accomplish. it is easy to
fool us, motion pictures do it all the time. but to fool film into
accepting a lot of short flashes as continuous light. no way i say but it
works. when no one was buying their photographer friendly stuff, olympus
went digital where they're not bringing up the rear. i have an adapter to
use their lenses at infinity on the eos, primarily for the preset 24f3.5
shift lens. remember leitz dropped the rf system for quite a while, nikon
the sp and s3 permanently as did minolta the cle when reflex looked like the
only game.
