Chris,
I have a horror story about a lens too...a Summilix 35 ASPH that had a very
strange focus problem and has been at Solms since January 2000, with no end
in sight.  See the list archives.  Leica NJ advised that it would not be
unusual for such a repair to take 6-9 months.
