The 50/2's was an evolutionary process.  Looking back to the very first lens 
of the series it's only logical that it would be the worst.  However there 
was a quantum leap with the rigid Summicron.  From that point on there was 
more progress in contrast (a function of coating techology) than sharpness (a 
design function).
