I wish reinforce what Jim has said about checking DOF on the ground glass.
There is no substitute for actually seeing the results of focusing *before*
developing the film.
Learning to see DOF takes only a few minutes. Close the diaphragm *slowly*
and *gradually* and see what happens on the GG.

Now pass that cake around.
