Hi Tina,.

thanks for the reply. I use lens hoods, wraps *and* filters for protection. 
Once while I was cleaning my stuff after a day's shooting I noticed a chip 
of glass taken right out of the centre of one of the filters. This was 
enough to convince me of the protective benefits!
