Tina,

One of Leica's great telephoto lenses is the f4 280mm APO. Spectacular
images. It might offer a good compromise between size and "pull",
especially with a 2X teleconverter. I realize f8 is slow, but was thinking
about travel/packing hassles. I can handhold it [without the
teleconverter], usually leaning up against a tree, building or some such.
It's really a superb lens, and might offer good tradeoffs in the
size/speed/weight travel planning department.

Enjoy the light in Kenya.
