Subject: [Leica] Re: M3 DS Lug Wear

I seem to remember hearing that the lugs on an early Double Stroke M3 are
quite soft. I just had one overhauled by DAG, and it happens to have
perfect lug holes -- nobody ever attached a strap. A week after putting on
a strap, however, I see some wear in the holes: brass showing
through. I'm wondering if I should use something other than a metal
ring? Has anyone ever tried tying a leather lace through the lug hole to
hold a strap? Bad idea?

Maybe I'm over-reacting; I suppose these lugs will last at least a few
years, no?

thanks,

Doug Cooper
