I experienced a similar situation. Had to take some photos of a mother as a
present to her kids. In my case it was a 20-35/2.8 for my C****.

My "purple window" were some birds. Were marvelous since the mother I had to
photograph didn't realize I was already shooting...

Took me some seconds, too. Best way to get a good day light portrait.

True, true...

Just a question, Ted: Did you position the person so that the frame became
some kinda dividing line between the face and the outer world? That's the
way I did it since the lines of the window frame formed the introduction
into the picture...
