I suspect they do if they're street-shooting in the Bronx.  Or they risk  
going Leicaless.

Actually, it is a commonplace among travelling photographers who visit  
dodgy locations:  the cheaper your camera looks, the better.  You don't  
want to look like a wealthy tourist, and you don't want to look like a  
pro.  Nobody murders people for point-and-shoots.  Which is one of the  
reasons  I adored the Ricoh GR-1:  to anyone but a camera geek it looks  
like a forty-dollar disposable. 
 
My dots are fully exposed, but they won't be if I venture too far from Soho.

Doug,

I go street shooting in the Bronx all the time with never any problem. I generally use an old Leica III which lacks the thief magnet red dot. I might consider a Hello Kitty sticker but that may be pushing my luck. There are some areas I would not consider venturing into with or without a camera.

In Soho the biggest danger is running into a camera geek who wants to talk about lens resolution or UV filters.
