So?

Why should this matter to the customer?

My bank recently screwed up and didn't enclose our canceled checks
with our statement. When I called to inquire, I was told that they
had a problem with their sorting machine. Either I'd get the checks
in a separate mailing, or they'd be shredded and destroyed. So I
asked for copies. "Which ones?" "All of them." "No, which do you
want copies of. "All the ones you didn't give to me." "But, sir. We
out-source making copies. We'll have to charge you a fee because we
pay another company to do that for us."

I really didn't understand why he thought I *cared* about the
internals of how the bank is run. They made a mistake. I wasn't
going to pay for their mistake. I asked that I made an error, if it
would be acceptable to bill them for it. He laughed and said that
would be ridiculous. And then realized what I was saying.

If I wanted to buy a Fuji, wouldn't I buy a Fuji? If I want to buy a
Leica, I'll buy a Leica. But Leica shouldn't be giving me a run-around
because they out-source the manufacturing of their camera to somebody
else.
