Hi Dan,

My personal favorite for hands-free viewing up close is an "Optivisor".
This is a commercially made binocular magnifier which fits on your head
and can be easily flipped up and out of the way for normal viewing. The
magnifying lenses come in different strengths. What makes these more
comfortable to use for long periods of time is that you use both eyes.
Take a look at: http://xtronics.com/optivisor.htm to see what they look
like.
